This small 1990s garden was in need of an update. The landscaping was very tired, old shrubs were outgrowing their allotted space and the few perennials there were struggled to flower. A key concern was the overwhelming sense of being overlooked due to the dominant presence of the houses to the rear.
Landscaper: The Green Room Gardens Bath
Although collapsing, there was nothing inherently wrong with the patio so we decided to lift and relay adding a paver edge to tie it into the rest of the garden and improve its structural integrity. Simply painting the shed grey was a huge improvement! It helped it 'sit back' in the space and provided a more sympathetic colour background to the new planting. Overall the design was strongly geometric as can been seen when viewed from above.
The beautiful pergola structure frames the new garden, screening the houses beyond and holding attention within the space. A built in bench seat offers the opportunity to spend time outside whenever the weather allows. The practical additional hard surfaces enable year round access to the garden amenities such as the shed and washing line without dominating the space. Planting in raised beds has added textural and visual interest. A white clover lawn and small tree have been planted to encourage birds and insects into the space.
