This front garden had been lovingly built by the owners 25 years ago but was in need of some fresh ideas. My client was keen to retain the best of the old including the circular seating area, main terrace and rockery but thoroughly overhaul the rest.
The main aim was to create a large, flat space for entertaining that could be accessed from the main steps. Along the way we had to address the issues of the huge overgrown hedge, a sad under performing lawn and unsuitable rockery planting.

In the new garden...
... the sloping lawn has been replaced with a perennial wild flower turf suitable for shady spots and is already producing masses of flowers.
... the rockery has been replanted with more appropriate choices using ferns and shade tolerant grasses alongside mound forming flowering perennials
... a level space for entertaining has been created using two sandstone circles echoing the existing materials and creating a planting bed for the lovely acer retained from the original scheme
... and my client has painted the garden furniture, fence and arbour a lovely slate grey and renovated the wooden planters.
